The Yuma Jaycees will be panhandling for teachers on July 13th from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at the intersection of 16th Street and South Castledome Avenue by Yuma Palms Shopping Center and are also accepting donations now via GoFundMe.
A study by the National Center for Education Statistics found that 94% of classroom teachers spend their own money stocking their classrooms with school supplies. The average expense teachers are covering from their own paychecks is $479.
Additionally, the Arizona Capitol Times reported that the average teacher salary in Arizona is $11,300 below the national average.
The Yuma Jaycees know education is important and we value the teachers in the Yuma community. We’re asking you to help us support teachers with stocking their classrooms now until July 19th for the 2019-2020 school year.
